Types of Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tours From Las Vegas
Las Vegas is a great location from which to stage a day trip to the Grand Canyon. South Rim bus tours are by far the most affordable way to get there. To help sort through the numerous tours available, here’s a rundown of the kinds of coach packages available and what you can expect.
First, Some Logistics
The South Rim of the National Park is more than 270 miles from Las Vegas. This equates to a 5.5-hour drive. Total round-trip drive time is 11 hours. Combine that with up to 3 hours of exploration inside the Park and you are looking at a full-day trip.
Many people are under the impression they will get back to Vegas in time for dinner or a show. I don’t recommend it. These bus rides leave at 7 a.m. and return at 9 p.m. That’s a long day by anyone’s count, and I’m sure most will look forward to unwinding in the hotel room.
Types of South Rim Bus Tours
Currently, there are two types of bus tours:
1. South Rim bus. Takes you direct to the National Park.
2. South Rim bus with Helicopter. Includes a heli ride from Grand Canyon Airport. This rim-to-rim flight is 30 minutes and takes you to the North Rim and back, whereupon you’ll rejoin your group for the ground tour portion of the trip.
Most all of these coach trips are all-inclusive. This means they come with complimentary hotel pick up and drop off, a grab-and-go breakfast, box lunch (including vegetarian!), professional driver-guide and park access fees.
Hoover Dam, Too!
The route to the canyon crosses the Colorado River via the Hoover Dam Bypass. The good tour packages will include a Hoover Dam photo stop on the Arizona side of the dam. You’ll also get sufficient smoke and rest breaks along the way as well.
Time inside the Park ranges between two and three hours. In all likelihood, you’ll go to Mather Point, the most famous lookout at South Rim. Other popular viewpoints include Yaki Point, Yavapai Observation Station and Hopi Point.
Tours wind down at Grand Canyon Village, the canyon’s commercial hub. Here you’ll find gift shops, restaurants, museums, coffee shops, hotels (make sure to check out El Tovar) and the mule barn. Nearby, is the Bright Angel Trail, which will take you below the rim and into the canyon.
How to Get a Good Deal
It’s simple. Just follow this 3-step process:
1. Reserve up to one-week in advance
2. Book your bus trip online
3. Complete your transaction on the website
Commit step #3 to memory. Too many people give up and use an agent to book their tour. Using these folks increases the price. These travel websites are safe, secure and very easy to use. Once you’re finished with your booking, you’ll receive a confirmation-receipt with all the details. If you have questions at this point, by all means, contact customer support.
Let’s Hit the Road!
Grand Canyon South Rim bus tours a great option when it comes to visiting the National Park. They’re relatively inexpensive, are all-inclusive and are perfect for large groups and families. As you plan your Vegas vacation, add a day tour to the South Rim. It will be the highlight of your vacation.
Weather Report 830 Jazz Music CD Review
The exceptionally talented Jazz group Weather Report have released their CD entitled 830. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Weather Report fans, and Jazz fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of 830 their artistic excellence is on full display as they have once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be their best work to date.
Weather Report have been a super stars in the Jazz genre for quite some time now and 830 is an excellent illustration as to why.
Weather Report is one of those groups that have the ability to just bowl you over with their collective talent. The kind of musicians it’s really a treat to be able to listen to.
830 is a pleasantly varied, mix of 12 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly gifted musicians. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.
Overall 830 is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Jazz collection. Truly an outstanding Jazz CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.
While this entire album is outstanding some of my favorites are track 3 – A Remark You Made, track 5 – In A Silent Way, and track 12 – Sightseeing
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Black Market. This is a great track!
