NYC nightlife covers a wide variety of entertainments, including parties, dancing, films, concerts, live theatre, opera, dance and so much more. The socialites and jet set enjoy sophisticated and lively entertainment, and this is why you will often find them in cabaret clubs.

Cabaret acts usually perform in a restaurant or nightclub, and the acts revolve around song, with comedy, drama and often dance thrown in the mix to keep it communicating with the audience. The music of choice in these clubs is jazz. The singer may be accompanied by a single piano or by an entire big band, depending on the performer and the venue.

Birdland is one of the greats when it comes to NYC

nightlife. Named after the famous alto saxophonist Charlie Parker in 1949 and originally located on Broadway, today’s Birdland is situated in midtown Manhattan. It still features some of the best jazz performers in the business including Pat Metheny, John Pizzarelli and others.

The Cafe Carlyle is another cabaret haunt of New York socialites. Opened in 1955, this was the performance home for the legendary cabaret performer Bobby Short.

Don’t Tell Mama’s is one of New York City’s hotspots. Known for its cabaret, it also features a famous piano bar, where amazing parties are held. Often after their performances on Broadway, Broadway stars and cast members head to Don’t Tell Mama’s to drink and sing, sharing their talent with everyone lucky enough to be in the room.

Feinstein’s at Loews Regency is a favorite supper club most popular with those in the know about NYC nightlife. Enjoy the food, the music and the sophistication that emanates from this great cabaret club. The man himself, Michael Feinstein, plays every December for the entire month at his wonderful club.

Joe’s Pub, at the Public Theatre, is another fabulous nightspot. They serve as host to a wide variety of music stylings, one of which is cabaret. They offer music seven nights a week, so whenever you are ready for some NYC nightlife they are available.

The Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room Supper Club is another famous room that features wonderful cabaret acts. Here you can enjoy a lovely Jazz Brunch on Sundays, as well as other musical presentations that help to make you feel that you have been transported back to the early heyday of jazz and cabaret as you enjoy a slice of NYC nightlife.

One of the best things about NYC is the nightlife, you can be anywhere in the city and never be far away from a bar or club. The times were magical, John Travolta was king and everyone had their dancing shoes on. During the 1980s London and Europe took over from NYC as the capital of the dance scene and bands like Boy George came out, their style of music was influenced by reggae music. The 1990s and 2000s was a time when much change occurred in club land and the Superclub evolved. Venues went from a capacity of 200 to 500 people to venues which held thousands of people. Venues like ‘Cream’ in Liverpool, UK and the famous Ministry of Sound night club in London became household names the world over. The style of music progressed from disco into house music and techno. Also, many NYC night clubs starting playing Hip-Hop and R&B style of music.

These days’ people are moving away from the Superclub style of venue and heading back to smaller intimate establishments. I think it’s safe to the days of having thousands of people squashed into a club are well and truly behind us. NYC night clubs are certainly geared towards the boutique style of clubbing mainly due to size constraints, New York has always had smaller style venues. A trip down to the East Village in NYC will uncover 100′s of bars and night clubs and the area is perfect for bar hopping. Whatever you taste in music New York has it covered from Rap music to Jazz there are nightclubs to suit your every needs.

Times Square is one of the most famous landmarks in NYC every new visitor to the city will make at least one trip to the area. The people that tend to frequent venues in midtown are mainly tourists, so it’s a great place to meet people from all over the world. Many people who live outside NYC will make the trip into midtown on the weekends to party it up at one of the many night clubs and bars. A popular area for locals and tourists who are looking for some class is the meat packing district, which is located in the West Side of Manhattan. The area is full of ritzy restaurants, bars and night clubs. The area is also home to a large number of trendy art galleries, boutique stores, fashion and beauty salons.
